SV@Home: Equity and the Pursuit of Transit-Oriented Communities

Affordable Housing Month 2023 Signature Event — Beyond Housing and Transportation: A Conversation about Equity and the Pursuit of Transit Oriented Communities

*Important* Please note the start time for this event has moved from 10am to 9:30am, to allow for networking and a longer program. This event's program will promptly begin at 10am.

Through an equity lens, our dynamic panel will discuss major regional housing and transportation-related efforts that will be impacting our local communities throughout the Bay Area and how we can ensure they will benefit us. Learn about the victories and losses of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission's Transit-Oriented Communities Policy adopted in late 2022, the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority's regional ballot measure coming to voters in 2024, and the transit fiscal cliff. We will also highlight the Housing Element's opportunities and shortcomings of locating affordable housing in “high resourced”, exclusive, transit poor, suburban areas.

Panelists

  • Councilmember Carlos Romero — City of East Palo Alto

  • Erika Pinto — San Jose Planning Policy Manager, SPUR San Jose

  • Heather Hood — Executive Director, Enterprise Community Partners

  • Jenn Guitart — Executive Director, TransForm

Master of Ceremony: SV@Home's very own Executive Director, Regina Celestin Williams

We will also have a small ceremony for this year's "Brick Award" winner, Jacky Morales-Ferrand, City of San Jose's Director of Housing for all her years of service for being a housing innovator and champion, making a lifetime impact in advocating for progressive housing policies, and leading in racial justice and equity in the housing field.
